Biomedical Engineer
Job Summary:
Africa Healthcare Network (“AHN”) is looking for a Biomedical Engineer to join its clinical operations team. AHN is the first dialysis chain across East Africa, providing high-quality, life-saving dialysis at an affordable cost to both the local patient population and patients from neighbouring countries, which do not have centres of their own. AHN brings world-class technical expertise combined with developing world practical operating experience to a region in dire need of quality dialysis treatment. In North America, over 97% of patients requiring treatment for kidney disease receive care; in East Africa, less than 5% receive care. AHN’s goal is to increase access to high quality care at a lower cost to patients, delivered through a sustainable business model. This individual will be primarily working in a clinical setting, with a strong focus on setting up dialysis related equipment in new clinic roll outs.

Location: Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Burundi
Need: Next 6 months
The function of a biomedical engineer is to assist the clinical operations team in solving problems related to dialysis and the field of dialysis– the engineer will not assist or take part in any clinical procedures. The engineer will need to be comfortable solving challenging problems, designing solutions and executing solutions primarily around healthcare but also in other engineering related fields.

Roles & Responsibilities
• Develop in depth knowledge on the field of dialysis, particularly the various machines and components needed to build and maintain a dialysis machine
• Understand the various SOPs around dialysis machines including the consumables needed in a dialysis session
• Develop in depth knowledge on Reverse Osmosis systems (“RO”), installation of RO machines and maintenance of RO machines
• Working closely with other medical professionals, such as doctors and therapists – the engineer will not assist or take part in any clinical procedures
• Training technical or clinical staff on the use of dialysis machines, when to recognize problems with dialysis machines and how to address various low priority problems
• Think critically and solve complex engineering problems
• Liaise and maintain relationships with device manufacturers, suppliers and other stakeholders
• Execute other engineer responsibilities assigned
• Understand how to use AutoCAD and develop CAD designs
• Be fully proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint – Effective verbal and written communication skills (English is a requirement)
• Act in a professional and responsible manner

Requirements
• BSc in mechanical engineering/ electrical engineer/ biomedical engineering from a recognized university
• Must be registered by the relevant Engineering Registration Board
• 1-5 years of experience (experience in healthcare is not necessary but an advantage)  

2. Registered Nurse
Job Description:

Location: Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Burundi

Need: Next 6 months
• Sets up and operates dialysis machines to provide dialysis treatment for patients
• Mixes dialysate, according to formula.
• Primes dialyzer with saline or heparinized solution to prepare machine for use.
• Transports patient to dialysis room and positions patient on chair/bed at hemodialysis machine.
• Takes and records patient’s predialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate.
• Explains dialysis procedure and operation of hemodialysis machine to patient before treatment to allay anxieties.
• Cleans area of access, using antiseptic solution.
• Connects hemodialysis machine to access in patient’s forearm or catheter site to start blood circulating through dialyzer.
• Inspects equipment settings, including pressures, conductivity, and temperature to ensure conformance to safety standards.
• Starts blood flow pump at prescribed rate.
• Inspects venous and arterial pressures as registered on equipment to ensure pressures are within established limits.
• Calculates fluid removal or replacement to be achieved during dialysis procedure.
• Monitors patient for adverse reaction and hemo dialysis machine for malfunction.
• Taking care of RO Plant and its regular maintenance activities
• Monitors stock for expiration dates, quantity, consumption, etc
• Coordinates with the Center Manager the scheduling of patients to ensure accommodations of all patients per Clinic’s policies
• Other duties as assigned.
• Handle other team members in an very efficient manner.

Requirements

• Qualification: GNM or BSc Nursing or Dialysis Diploma; Nursing Registration from Local Authority
• Experience: 1 – 15 years  

3. Center Manager
Job Description:

Location: Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Burundi

Need: Next 6 months
• Should be able to handle the overall Administration of the Dialysis Center.
• Taking care of staff management.
• Handling Guest Scheduling, Billing, cash, patient care, etc.
• Co Ordinate functions between the Clinical And Non-Clinical Team.
• Supervision of all the departments for its effective functioning.
• Improve the occupancy level of inpatients.
• Develop and support the diagnostic services and make them center of excellence.
• Taking of inventory management and monitoring.
• Looking after the Front Office, Housekeeping, their Grooming, etc.

Requirements
• Qualification: Any graduate + 5 experience with healthcare
• Experience: Minimum 3 years handling in admin role
