The Tanzania Education Program for Results (EPforR) is an innovative, results-based financing programme supported by the World Bank, the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID), the Government of Sweden (Sida) and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). EPforR started in July 2014 and aims to make about US$500 million available over six years to the Government of Tanzania to improve quality, equity and access in the public basic education system, which consists of pre-primary, primary and lower secondary education.

The TAS team is embedded in the two lead ministries: the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST), which sets education policy, strategy and budgets, provides quality assurance and manages tertiary education and technical and vocational education and training (TVET); and the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), which implements pre-primary, primary and secondary education through the decentralised local government system (26 regions and 184 districts) on the Tanzanian mainland.

Phase 2 of the TAS commenced April 2019 and will continue to the end of the EPforR Programme, in December 2020.
