In the past two years one of HakiElimu’s programmatic focus in its 2017 – 2021 Strategic Plan has been on girls’ education. To this end, HakiElimu has implemented a Girls Retention and Transition Initiative (GRTI) in 11 districts. The initiative seeks to ensure that girls complete their schooling, and become young women who are empowered to reach their full potential, so they can earn their own livelihoods, which will benefit families as well as the economic growth of their communities and Tanzania. Due to impressive results of the pilot phase, HakiElimu intends to scale up this initiative to 22 programme districts.
