Position: Community Relations Assistant
Duty Station: Moshono, Arusha Region

The School of St Jude is a 100% charity-funded education institution that provides free, high-quality primary and secondary scholarships to 1,800 of the poorest and brightest students in the Tanzanian region of Arusha.

We are looking to appoint a creative and energetic individual to fill the position of Community Relations Assistant based in Arusha, Tanzania. The ideal candidate will have a passion for community development and a strong interest in NGOs.

Reporting To: Community Relations Manager.

Job Purpose:
To assist the Community Relations Team in the following:
Ensure that the Annual Medical Checks of the students are well performed
Ensure that the Welfare of the students is appropriate.
Ensure that the Annual Poverty Assessment checks of the students are performed (in relation with the Parents’ Committee)
Assist in the Annual Student Selection (Testing Day, Poverty Assessments etc.)
Provide assistance to all in the Community Relations Team and other Business Teams when required. 


Key Responsibilities:
Student Selection: up to 3 periods of time a year, responsible for all logistics and means-testing of student selection. Close working relationship with the Primary and Secondary Academic Teams who oversees the academic selection component of Student Selection.
Student & Health Welfare: Oversees the medical and welfare needs of students in consultation with the welfare deputies and boarding managers at each campus. The team is responsible for organizing all recruitment and logistics for yearly medical checks conducted in February, and to follow up on any recommendations made by the visiting medical team. The team is also responsible for compiling and maintaining accurate records for all medical cases.
Visitor Liaison: works closely with the Visitor Team to organize appropriate/match visits of students’ homes with sponsors and visitors; conducting pre and post home visit briefings with sponsors/visitors.
Poverty Assessment: This new procedure has been put into place and needs implementing. Working closely with the Parents’ Representatives, it aims at making sure of the genuine poverty of the students already enrolled, and to know the update on their conditions.
House Checks when a student has moved: parents have to notify the school when they moved house. Upon reception of the declaration, a visit is needed and pictures need to be taken.

Other Responsibilities
To organize the stay (in liaison with the Visitor team) and the timetable of the medical checks team. Ensure that the materials and rooms needed are booked and that the whole process runs smoothly.
To assist with house checks (and photos) required by the Community Relations Team throughout the year.
To assist with Student Selection throughout the year, with main responsibilities including translations throughout house checks.
To assist with compiling the information and prepare the files necessary for the Poverty Assessment check.
To make sure that TASS and Civi are up-to-date (regarding Medical checks, Welfare, Student Selection etc.).
To perform any assignments and duties as requested by the Community Relations Manager.

Other Duties:
Participate in House Checks as requested by Community Relations team.
Participate and support fellow staff in school mission related activities such as all School Celebration Days throughout the year.
Participate in student selection process, in particular working after hours on rest days and public holidays up to 20 Saturdays per annum.
Perform any other duties as assigned by Head of Department, Manager and Founder.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Community Development or related area of study.
Minimum of two years’ working experience.
Exceptional communication skills (written and oral) in both English and Kiswahili.
Strong inter-personal skills to work in collaboration with all other departments.
Excellent organisation skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
Ability to work as part of a close team of Tanzanian staff and International Volunteers.
Exceptional attention to detail particularly with regards to data-entry and digital image labelling.
Prior experience working in an office environment.

Other Job Requirements:
Regular travel to other campuses/students’ homes/ government schools for various projects.
