Agriculture Advisor, Tanzania
We are currently seeking an Agriculture Advisor for an anticipated USAID-funded Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Support Activity (MSNA) project based in Tanzania. MSNA will provide household level support to agriculture, nutrition, and water and sanitation activities.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the assessment of key constraints of the targeted value chains and identify solutions to improve access to inputs, productivity, post-harvest handling and processing, and end-market linkages for smallholder farmers.
  • Develop the capacity of producers, processers, and other value chain actors in targeted value chains, and facilitate capacity building plans and access to training services.
  • Facilitate the development of inclusive supply chains linking producers to value added markets.
  • Engage with government stakeholders and relevant private sector actors in developing strong public/private partnerships to ensure development of an integrated public/private environment.
  • Address priorities for the integration of nutrition into agriculture and value-chain activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and monitoring for nutrition-sensitive agricultural activities and services where and as appropriate.
  • Apply gender-sensitive best practices to develop innovative approaches to address barriers to female participation and/or marginalized groups in market activities.
  • Represent ACDI/VOCA interests during meetings related to agriculture and other subjects with USAID Mission personnel, host-country government officials, international organizations, local and international NGOs, international donors, and others interested in ACDI/VOCA activities.
  • Coordinate with relevant staff in regional offices as needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agribusiness, environmental science or other relevant field. Additional study in nutrition and/or food security, preferred.
  • Advanced degree in agronomy, agribusiness or other relevant field, preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience working on large projects focusing on agriculture, food security, agribusiness or other related technical areas.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in implementing programs aimed at improving productivity of smallholder farmers and expanding market opportunities through multi-sectoral strategies. 
  • Demonstrated history of providing highly effective technical and managerial leadership on projects of similar size and scope.
  • Experience with food fortification preferred
  • Experience with social behavior change preferred
  • Understanding of Tanzanian agricultural context.
  • Experience with USAID is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel required. Applicants may be expected to relocate to regional offices depending on solicitation requirements.
  • Fluency in English required.
