Roles and Responsibilities
Purpose:
To research, develop, implement and monitor products for Retail Bank customers.
Areas of focus
  1. Liability Products
  2. Assets Products
  3. Cards Issuing and Acquiring
  4. Digital Channels
  5. Retail Strategic initiatives

Product Management
  • Ensure income targets are met for Retail products through establishing and implementing the local/regional product pricing strategy
  • Identifying opportunities for new product development and enhancement in line with the in-country
  • EM Retail strategy. Ensure that the Product Assistant completes the product research,
  • Own the product development and implementation process in-country.
  • Participate actively in the ALCO (Asset and Liability Committee) meetings, advising on the most appropriate interest rate strategy for each product, covering balance sheet and income impacts.
  • Contribute ideas for alternative product strategies to manage the Asset and Liability Book.
  • Continuously review the local basis for customer segmentation and recommend suitable product activity to target and sustain viable and profitable segments in line with the stated Retail strategy in country.
  • Monitor and provide feedback to Centre Retail Management on local competitor product activity and pricing.
  • Review local product legal and regulatory assessments completed by the Product Assistant.
  • Review product income analysis prepared by the Product Assistant and present to the local Retail
  • Management Committee and Emerging Markets Product team.
  • Interact with the Head of Direct Sales, Proposition Heads and Area and Regional Managers in the
  • Branch network to provide input into sales strategies.
  • Review a customer satisfaction surveys to identify product issues. Create action plans and implement changes to address such issues.
  • Provide input to the Sales Campaign Manager during the development of product-specific sales campaigns.
  • Build relationships with internal service providers including Marketing, Communications and Operations and ensure that service level agreements are implemented and maintained where appropriate.
  • Develop and agree income targets by product.
  • Develop the local product pricing strategy and obtain approvals as required prior to communicating the details.
  • Complete product research, development and implementation.
  • Interface with Operations on a daily basis to ensure that there is a broad understanding of the product processing requirements.
  • Responsibility for product balance sheet growth linked to the STP growth targets.
  • Product Campaigns and product sales activations to support sales channels
  • Product – MTP growth planning and margin forecasting per products
  • Monthly product income line reviews linked to balance sheet and P&L
  • Product pricing
  • Competitor product review and market intelligence
  • Product enhancements to features and benefits
  • Build Innovative market leading solutions
  • Act as a digital adoption ambassador across Tanzania engaging with the business to embrace the digital workplace and digital adoption to drive growth in products and services.
  • Deliver a culture of expert support and digital collaboration.
  • Communicate regularly and clearly to paint a clear picture of requirements, performance.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise our digital offering and areas where we can lead within our industry and the digital market place.
  • Utilise both internal and external technical advances and a comprehensive knowledge of internal processes and products to implement change.
  • Proactively seek ideas and feedback from the business – engaging directly with internal stakeholders to deliver optimum digital solutions to business issues and showcasing best practice.
  • Proactively develop and drive the necessary knowledge and skills required to achieve successful delivery of digital awareness and adoption, driving an increase in the understanding and benefits of digital products and services across the bank and their customers. 
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships in line with the agreed digital strategy to remain at the forefront of emerging technologies.
  • Capture own and resolve any digital service issues identified to improve satisfaction and contribute to improve advocacy.

Product Governance and Control
  • Prepare monthly tariff reports to identify errors and deviations.
  • Conduct snapchecks as assigned.
  • Monitor adherence to agreed sales processes by conducting regular walk-through audits and checking documentation requirements.
  • Chair monthly retail pricing committee with alignment to TOR and key stakeholders
  • Ensure minutes and discussion points escalated to ALCO pricing review
  • Product profitability models and ongoing margin management to ensure correct focus on profitability
  • Income leakage management forum to ensure correct mapping and income flows from products
  • Monthly review and escalation of conduct risk related to products
  • Own, document and deliver support and training literature for the digital ambassador community.
  • Provide analysis and expertise from Management Information and KPIs to stakeholders to evidence the value adding activities and help to drive additional digital enhancements.
  • Be a role model across the bank, communicate with passion, enthusiasm and authority and embrace change as a way of working, lead by example when communicating new initiatives, products and tools.

Product Training
  • Identify product training needs or skills gaps and ensure that the local Learning and Development team are made aware of the training needs.
  • Source training material for products.
  • Conduct formal training on products as required.
  • Staff training and education
  • Customer product awareness
  • Customer education drive on product usage and adoption
  • Merchandising and product profiles to be owned and driven by product team
  • Establish and grow a community of digital ambassadors across the organisation.
  • Be regarded as a subject matter expert who communicates in a variety of ways; verbally, written, social tools, face to face.
  • Proactively and reactively provide support across a number of branches and operational teams across a regional footprint while maintaining a clear view of operational models for our digital products and services.

Experience Requirements
Expertise & Experience
  • A comprehensive knowledge of Barclays Retail products and systems that support them.
  • A detailed understanding of product offerings in the wide financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of Barclays Retail strategy and policies.
  • Detailed knowledge of consumer behaviour, marketing techniques and evolving trends.
  • A detailed understanding of local industry advisory, regulatory and professional bodies.
