Building strong customer brands, this middle sized manufacturing company is a key player in its market. Having experienced significant growth over the past year the company has appetite for further expansion, venturing into adjacent markets and creating new A-brands. As a result, challenging ambitions have been laid down in the corporate strategy that was developed with a leading strategy consultant. The company is well respected for its achievements, has a good name with the stakeholders and the staff is proud to be part of its journey. The role is based at the factory / head office site in a city, not being Dar Es Salaam.
This ambitious company is looking for a General Manager who will oversee the day-to-day operations, with responsibilities of providing leadership in implementing the strategic goals and aspirations of the company, while maintaining a highly attractive and motivating working environment to the workforce, in order to deliver excellent products and services to clients so as to ensure profitability and growth. A strong focus lies on continuing the growth while preparing the organisation for sustainable future growth, amongst others amending the structure, processes, staff behaviour and leadership approach where need be. The General Manager will report to the Board of Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversee the company wide implementation of the strategic plan. Guide the Management Team translating the strategy to their departments, into congruent KPI’s on all levels and monitor the progress
• Review the current organisation structure, processes, leadership approach and staff behavior aimed at enabling sustainable growth delivering high quality products and services
• Inspire and involve the Management Team and staff going through the necessary organisational changes
• Through the Management Team and their teams stimulate a culture of working and learning together to further improve the staff’s performance and agility
• Further develop the Management Team into a high performing team, sharing knowledge while focusing on their key tasks and being agile improving resource utilisation and anticipating threats and opportunities
• Guide the Management Team focusing on operational excellence, including implementation of sales and operational foresight, Total Quality Management (TQM) and achievement of ISO certification
o Drive the Commercial Director to grow sales and build brands, increase market penetration against agreed margins, further improve the distribution model
o Lead the Factory Director in growing the production based on market demand while lifting the production standards according to Total Quality Management and ISO standards
o Lead the Finance Director growing productivity in the department while focusing on quality (the first time right principle and maintaining sold controls) and timely delivery. Manage TRA in close cooperation
o Lead the Supply Chain Director acquiring suitable products and services against highly competitive prices and manage stock efficiently
o Lead the HR Director to attract, retain and develop talent, grow staff performance and efficiently let go of consistent underperformers following the labour laws avoiding unnecessary penalties
• Though the Management Team lead the following initiatives:
o Grow the skills and accountability within the departments
o Draft and implement the critical policies and procedures
o Implement a sound financial and accounting information system
o Establish costing systems in order to apportion costs
o Implementation of an expenditure structure to control and minimise costs
• Manage various stakeholders and further build company image by collaborating with customers, government agencies, community organizations and employees; enforcing ethical business practices
• Further strengthen the staff’s sense of belonging to the company, including embracing the mission, vision and values

Educational Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree is of added value, in Business, Finance or related field gained from a recognized university
• 10+ years’ relevant experience (including commercial and/or finance) in consumer goods and manufacturing environment
• 5 years of leading a multidisciplinary Management Team in a 20+ staff company in fast moving consumer goods manufacturing – or – 5 years of being part of a Management Team with a fast moving consumer goods manufacturing company, actively involved in the decision making on the various disciplines
• Experience in both a Tanzanian and international context, bringing best practices to a local organisation
