Position: Head of Advocacy and Policy (Education) - Learn Breakthrough
We are currently recruiting for a high calibre Head of Advocacy and Policy – Learn Breakthrough to lead on the delivery of our Education advocacy and policy, and help ensure our Ambition for 2030 - that all children will have access to a good basic quality education.
As our Head of Advocacy and Policy you will provide vision and leadership for Education advocacy and policy efforts. You will forge and develop important linkages with our teams leading on child rights, child protection, child survival and child poverty. You will also work with senior technical staff right across Save the Children, elevating the cohesion and consistency of advocacy and programme work that supports Education e.g. early learning and education in emergencies.

You will represent Save the Children within key external fora, including global policy dialogues in the United Nations etc. You will hold a responsibility to ensure our advocacy efforts are coordinated and impactful, promote and apply a local to global approach, champion country-led efforts, and set milestones that organisation will hold itself accountable to.

Save the Children is 100 years old this year, and this role will help us place child rights at the centre of our work, and strive to elevate our impact on children, to allow them to survive, learn and be protected. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with energy, commitment, and talent, to help ensure positive and lasting change in the lives of the most marginalised and vulnerable children.
In order to be successful, you will bring/have:
  • Significant advocacy and policy experience within the field of education, and a proven track record in successfully leading the development and implementation of advocacy strategies on an international level in a large INGO.
  • Demonstrable track record in policy development and influencing at global level, regional level and/or national level.
  • Long-term experience and proven track record in multilateral advocacy at global and/or regional level and successful advocacy at country level on child-related issues.
  • Demonstrated expertise in key education thematic areas e.g. early learning,
  • Extensive knowledge of international development, humanitarian and child rights actors and key stakeholders.
  • Sound knowledge of global development issues/trends and the current international education discourse
  • Experience of working in developing countries and/or humanitarian crises.
  • Excellent mentoring and capacity-building skills, applicable across different countries and cultures and at the international level.
  • The ability to travel internationally (up to 25%)
This role could be based in London, or any existing Save the Children location. We offer a competitive package based on national terms and conditions.

Position: Cluster Coordination Specialist - Surge Rosta
We are currently establishing an Education in Emergencies Roster of Cluster Coordination specialists who would be available to deploy to cover gaps and backfill opportunities across our global humanitarian operations.    
Save the Children co-leads the Global Education Cluster in partnership with the UN and provides support to over 20-education clusters/EiE Working Groups, which collectively, coordinate education in emergency responses to over 13 million children.

On deployment you would typically take on the role of a Cluster Coordinator and assume overall responsibility for the co-leadership of the Education cluster; or provide strategic and advisory support to existing Cluster Coordinators. Standard accountabilities would include supporting needs assessments and ensuring education is prioritized in all multi-sector assessments, developing, implementing and monitoring the cluster strategy and work plan, ensuring clear and effective communication between sub-national and national clusters and ensuring Child Safeguarding is addressed. You may also take on some capacity building responsibilities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the ability to deploy at short notice for up to 12 weeks at a time.
In order to secure a place on the roster you will bring:
  • Extensive progressively responsible work experience within the UN, government and/or NGO, including in a humanitarian context.
  • Prior experience of working within a senior management role or cluster coordination within a complex country programme in an emergency response or fragile state
  • Experience applying relevant interagency humanitarian frameworks and standards in education in emergencies (for example INEE Minimum Standards)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skill, including the ability to facilitate diverse groups.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with ability to act with of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English and preferably, at least one of the following additional languages – French, Spanish and/or Arabic.
  • Demonstrable ability to work and represent views across different stakeholders taking part in the Education Cluster.
  • Knowledge of the IASC Cluster System and recent humanitarian reform developments, including the Transformative Agenda
  • A demonstrable commitment to Humanitarian Principles and the Principles of Partnership
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Experience in coordination roles in the first phase of a major emergency response is helpful
  • Experience in child participation, child safeguarding or working with local partners would also be desirable.
Contracts would be issued upon deployment. Accommodation, flights and business travel insurance (including medical) would be provided.
