Organizational Settings

This will contribute to address the FAO’s fifth strategic objective “increase the resilience of livelihoods to threats and crises”. Furthermore, it will also contribute to strengthen animal health systems through addressing common livestock diseases affecting the large scale and smallholder farming systems in Zanzibar. These guidelines will benefit both private and public sectors, whereby the private sector works alongside with the public sector to deliver veterinary services in Zanzibar. The service providers are required to observe and abide to the code of conduct and ethics. However, compliance to the professional conduct and ethics is not at a level as expected and therefore enforcement needs to be enhanced. Cognizant of the fact that the veterinary profession in Zanzibar needs to contribute towards protection of public health through appropriate veterinary drug use and limit adverse impacts such as antimicrobial resistance.

Reporting Lines
The National Consultant will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Tanzania, direct technical supervision of the ECTAD Country Team Lead and the operationalization of the National AMR Coordinator with collaborative support from national technical team of the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) in Tanzania.
