Role Purpose and Key Accountabilities
Role purpose:

Head of Tax oversees an organization's tax policies and objectives. Monitors reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable Tax Laws. Additionally, Head of Tax ensures accuracy of tax returns and works to minimize the organization's tax obligations.

Key accountabilities:

  • Proactively manage relationships with TRA, Tax Consultants, tax lawyers and other stakeholders (private and public)
  • Propose, review and implement tax management policies and procedures
  • Advise the business on tax implications of different transactions and make judgement on circumstances where external advice is required
  • Provides recommendation on development of information systems supporting the tax function
  • Reviews and maintain financial models to be used for the tax computations and tax payments. Implement measures to manage the risk of penalties and interests as a results of non- compliance
  • Oversee the review of all tax returns, computations and payments
  • Ensure that the tax team performs the Monthly reconciliation of the VAT, Withholding tax and Excise duty
  • Coordinate and ensure timely submission of monthly tax report and computation
  • Coordinate the activities of personnel in the tax department, recommending measures to improve performance and increase efficiency
  • Recommend personnel action such as recruitment, promotions, succession plans, disciplinary measures and training of future employees
  • Liaise with the Group Tax on a regular basis

Professional qualifications, competencies, knowledge and experience
Professional qualifications, competencies, knowledge and experience
  • University graduate with a degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
  • CPA (T) or specific tax qualification e.g. Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a financial and tax role. Prior experience in a Big 4 or other professional tax consulting firms will be an added advantage.
  • Telecommunication industry experience is advantageous
  • Deep understanding of the tax laws and tax accounting.
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Strong engagement and influencing skills with key stakeholders
  • To be up to date with the latest legislation governing the tax function and profession
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer orientated approach
  • Leadership skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to lead and network with other players in the market
