Assistant Technical Manager
Position: Assistant Technical Manager
Reports to: Technical Manager

Job Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Objective of the Role:
Responsible for supporting the Technical Manager in daily operations, enhancing predictive maintenance practices across the farm, and overseeing project supervision.

Main activities:
  • Confirm the proper functionality of all technical installations.
  • Offer training and assistance for field activities in the technical department.
  • Review and train the team on health & safety protocols, making necessary adjustments.
  • Prepare work plans for the department.
  • Create schedules for weekends and Public Holidays as needed.
  • Assist in labour management.
  • Adhere to hygiene, health & safety, and farm protocols.
  • Complete any additional tasks assigned by the Manager.

Specific Tasks:
  • Provide daily support, coaching, and guidance to Technical Department employees to enhance their performance.
  • Conduct training sessions for the technical team to ensure proper utilization of tools.
  • Review and update farm health & safety protocols, conducting thorough training to raise awareness among employees.
  • Efficiently plan and schedule employee leave, coordinating weekend and Public Holiday duties with the Technical Manager as needed.
  • Supervise farm projects, ensuring adherence to departmental work plans despite employee leave cycles.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Manager to enforce disciplinary measures when necessary and oversee preventative maintenance and technical troubleshooting activities.
  • Adhere to GSPP and farm protocols, suggesting changes as needed, and strictly observe health & safety regulations.

Position: Local Quality Assurance Officer – none GSPP Protocols
Reports to: General Manager
Position Type: Staff Position
Job Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Objective of the Role:
Responsible for implementing, controlling, and updating non-GSPP protocols at Enza Zaden Africa Ltd through the Quality Management System (QMS), including training, follow-up, and auditing.

Main activities:
  • Inspecting the implementation and ensuring compliance with non-GSPP rules and regulations.
  • Monitoring adherence to Enza Zaden Africa protocols.
  • Conducting internal audits at Enza Zaden Africa.
  • Providing protocol training.
  • Utilizing Quality Online (QOL) system.
  • Overseeing Health and Safety (OSHA) compliance.
  • Reporting on greenhouse maintenance.
  • Performing any other tasks assigned by management.

Specific Tasks:
  • Maintain close oversight to ensure adherence to non-GSPP protocols. Any deviations must be promptly reported to management in writing for corrective action. Conduct regular meetings with employees to review current systems, provide reminders on non-GSPP rules and regulations, and explain any protocol amendments. Follow up on reported mistakes and advise on necessary actions for implementation.
  • Verify protocol compliance and address any necessary adjustments by consulting the protocol manager. Assist in rewriting protocols if needed and ensure the Enza Zaden Africa protocol book remains up to date.
  • Establish a biannual audit system at Enza Zaden Africa. Generate reports on audit findings and follow up on deficiencies and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with managers to develop an annual training plan for employees regarding protocol adherence. Ensure new employees receive protocol training relevant to their job description.
  • Utilize the Quality Management System, Quality Online, for updating protocols, forms, and work instructions after consulting with the protocol owner.
  • Work alongside the Local Quality Assurance Officer GSPP to maintain a safe workplace environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Regularly review and communicate these policies and procedures, ensuring statutory obligations are met, including training and reporting requirements.
  • Report any issues related to greenhouse maintenance, such as problems with plastic, motors, doors, or insect nets, to the Technical Manager for organizing repairs or replacements.

Qualifications and Skills:
– A Degree holder from accredited College/University.
-Relevant experience for up to 4 years.
-Experience in a farm or the agricultaral sector is an added advantage
– Strong organizational and time-management skills.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Proficient in using ERP systems.
– Must have proficient skills in both English and Swahili languages.

Job Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Objective of the Role:
Operate vehicles, tractors, forklifts, or any other equipment only if you possess a valid driver’s license appropriate for the specific driving category required.

Main activities:
  • Inspecting company cars.
  • Reporting vehicle license, insurance, and roadworthy certificate expiration alongside the Technical Supervisor.
  • Handling delivery and collection of export/import documents and shipments.
  • Providing guest pick-up or drop-off, as well as employee transportation.
  • Undertaking additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Adhering to all GSPP and farm protocols.

Specific Tasks:
  • Perform daily checks on company cars using the required checklists, and ensure they are washed and cleaned as needed.
  • Promptly notify the Technical Supervisor of any impending expiration of vehicle licenses, insurance, or roadworthy certificates.
  • Ensure timely delivery of original export/import documents to clearing agents to facilitate swift handling. Handle the delivery or collection of import/export shipments, such as to the International Airport. Report any issues, such as damages, to the Harvest & Export Manager.
  • Facilitate the transportation of guests, such as from the International Airport, and return them upon completion of their visit. Also responsible for transporting employees to and from Enza, or from the picking point to Enza and back.
  • Undertake any additional tasks assigned by superiors, whether on the farm premises or elsewhere.
  • Adhere to GSPP and farm protocols and suggest protocol changes if relevant. Always observe health and safety protocols.

Qualifications and Skills:
-High school certificate and driving certificate with minimum 3 years of relevant working experience.
-Must posses a national driving license under categories C, C1 is mandatory Class E/ G is an added advantage
-Having worked in a formal office setting as a driver is an added advantage.
– Because of logistical constraints,for this role it is necessary to live within the Arusha region, specifically between Moshono and Impala vicinities.
– Strong organizational and time-management skills.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Must be able to communicate in both English and Swahili languages.
