Mechanical Engineer
Mechanical Engineer at Kilombero Sugar March 2024
Job Purpose
The successful incumbent stands a chance of being part of a highly motivated and experienced team by providing specialized Mechanical Engineering expertise to enable the successful installation and commissioning of an entire highly automated sugar factory in Kilombero.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures technical correctness for the implementation of Engineering standards and designs as laid out in the EPC Contract, incorporating these into the mechanical engineering construction across the site.
  • Be fully conversant with an EPC form of contract and ensure optimal and fit-for-purpose mechanical engineering solutions typical in a new sugar factory.
  • Provide expert mechanical engineering input to quality assurance requirements for ensuring an acceptable reliable sugar factory.
  • Be responsible to assess, witness, sign-off and accept all areas of the factory as they are mechanically completed and presented to the client for inspection and acceptance.
  • Engage with key stakeholders early and often, ensuring collaboration and alignment on Mechanical Engineering solutions.
  • Be well-informed of the latest technologies / methods to address mechanical problems experienced.
  • Assist the Operational Readiness team to ensure information for spares holding, asset care implementation is available or sourced.
  • Assist the Operational Readiness team with commissioning as required across the entire factory.
  • Coach, guide and develop others in best practice mechanical engineering solutions and practices.

Job Qualification and Experience
  • BSc/ BTech Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Must have solid experience working in a sugar factory having a milling extraction process, conventional quin evaporation process house, 45 Bar steam generation and a power station with both condensing and backpressure turbines each generating 25 MW at 11KV.
  • Extensive Mechanical Engineering operational and management experience in sugar milling operations.
  • Deep knowledge of Mechanical Engineering technical standards and critical mechanical equipment specific to the Sugar Industry
  • Proven track record in providing key stakeholders with sound mechanical engineering advice and expertise.

Self – Management and Personal Traits
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to verbalize ideas easily.
  • Organized and structured thinking processes with analytical ability to interpret construction suitability and compliance.
  • Proven track record in leading a team, and possessing the ability to coach, guide and develop others.
  • Credibility and confidence to engage with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to anticipate, interpret and respond to changes impacting on functional area.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with solutions-focused and continuous improvement mind-set.
  • Self-driven, professional and dedicated, with a strong track record in delivering results and enabling a team to deliver.
  • Ability to work well as a team player, and independently.

Terms Of Service:
The successful candidate will be engaged on a Fixed-Term Contract that will be determined by completion of the assigned scope.
