TANZANIA MONITORING, EVALUATION, LEARNING AND ADAPTATION ACTIVITY (USAID T-MELA)
STATEMENT OF WORK: COPY EDITOR
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
On January 19, 2023, USAID/Tanzania awarded IBI a contract for the Tanzania Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Adaptation (USAID T-MELA) Activity. T-MELA is a four-year contract aimed to assist the USAID/Tanzania Mission with strategy- and activity-level performance monitoring, evaluation, and learning. This activity will also provide data gathering and verification, data visualization (including Geographic Information Systems), data quality assessments, impact and performance evaluations, assessments, organizational learning, and collaboration among USAID’s implementing partners and DO teams. T-MELA has four components: i) Performance monitoring ii) Assessments and Evaluations iii) Collaborating, Learning and Adapting and iv) Capacity building to local M&E Organizations.

POSITION:
USAID T-MELA is seeking a skilled Copyeditor that can be of service on an ad-hoc basis. The ideal candidate should possess exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and have previous experience copyediting reports for USAID and/or its implementing partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Copy-edit reports, workplans, project monitoring plans, one-pager briefs, success stories, and other documents generated by USAID-funded projects according to the USAID standard guidelines and professional standards.
  • Review and correct written content (Word and PowerPoint) for spelling, grammar, syntax, and clarity.
  • Rewrite repetitious or ambiguous passages in reports and other documents as necessary.
  • Suggest revisions to enhance the overall quality and impact of the content.
  • Verify that numerical information, like statistics and dates is consistent throughout the document.
  • Format reports according to USAID branding and marking as well as follow the report template provided by T-MELA.
  • Correct grammatical, consistency, and typographical errors.
  • Assist with other copy-editing and document formatting tasks, as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5 years) working as a copyeditor.
  • Proven experience copyediting for USAID or USAID Implementing Partners
  • Proficiency in using editing tools such as grammar checkers, style guides (e.g., AP, Chicago Manual of Style), and Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Exceptional grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency in style and tone.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

ADDITIONAL/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Amend reports to be Section 508 compliant. (https://www.section508.gov/manage/laws- and-policiesA
  • Graphic Design and/or data visualization
  • Tanzanian nationals preferred

PAYMENTS:
This position will be under a fixed price agreement with a set daily and hourly rate.

LOCATION:
The USAID T-MELA Office is located in Dar es Salaam; however, this position can be done remotely.

SUPERVISION:

This position will be supervised by the USAID T-MELA Chief of Party and technical review and supervision from the Component Lead.
